24 x 14 Man Cave Base
We recently were called out for advice and a quote on a huge man cave base.
The original plan was to take up the width of the garden and 12 ft from front to back. After measuring up the width allowed was well over 25ft. It was decided we would put down concrete 50mm council slabs to the width of 24ft. The true width is a little shy simply because of moving to metric units rather than The imperial measurements of old.
Front to back was decided that 12ft of slabs wouldn’t be adequate for such as wide shed, or rather, man cave. So the revised size was now 24ft x 14ft, which I’m sure anyone would agree is absolutely huge!
The base being done in slabs will aid with allowing water to escape and there will be no risk of expansion cracking that such a large concrete base may have caused problems with. To aid with water, the slabs are butt jointed and laid on a sand base, with a mot type1 sub base. Sealed with a sharp sand and cement mix. All surrounded by 20mm gravel.
Whilst we was there, the customer also decided she’d like a 10ft x 9ft base just in front. The base however had to go lower or there would be a huge step into it and therefore lose practicality.
We were responsible for removing the old summer house (This gives you an idea of the sheer scale). Remove the old concrete base. Dig out and remove all the soil and rubbish and then lay the bases and make good around them.
We can’t wait to see the finished article! We will update when the man cave and shed have been erected. I’m sure they will look great in the man cave base!
